“…
Modest Mouse, in the song Lives
It’s hard to remember, it’s hard to remember, we’re alive for the first time.
It’s hard to remember, it’s hard to remember, we’re alive for the last time.
It’s hard to remember, it’s hard to remember, to live before you die.
It’s hard to remember, it’s hard to remember, that our lives are such a short time.
It’s hard to remember, it’s hard to remember, when it takes such a long time.
It’s hard to remember…
It’s hard to remember…”
In some belief systems, our lives are sustainable and recyclable, as “we” cycle through one existence after each other. In other beliefs, this is it. There are other variations.
Either way you look at it, we’re alive now.
So, now what do we do with it, this life?
As Mary Oliver asks, “what will you do with your one wild and precious life?”
That’s up to each of us to discover, and hopefully not too hard to remember.
