Full fathom five thy father lies,
Of his bones are coral made,
Those are pearls that were his eyes,
Nothing of him that doth fade,
But doth suffer a sea-change,
into something rich and strange,
Sea-nymphs hourly ring his knell,
Ding-dong.
Hark! now I hear them, ding-dong, bell.”
– Shakespeare, in The Tempest
The popular press says change can happen overnight. Fad diets claim it. Rehab clinics and fat farms promise it. Heck, many people start the year with a long, long list of resolutions to help them change.
Do these things really work that quickly? No.
True change is change that is happening slowly but surely. It’s change that happens one step at a time. The time span is not instant; it’s one day at a time.
If you want to change and it doesn’t seem like it’s happening fast enough, the kind to yourself and let it take a little time.
