Is living fully actually impossible?

THE UNATTAINABLE IDEAL

We ought to live
each day as though
it were our last day
here below.

But if I did, alas,
I know
it would have killed me
long ago.

I’ve sort of started a list a few times. There’s a question that goes something like “What would you do if you found out you only had 24 hours to live?”

I “sort of started”, because each time I got stuck somewhere. I’d get depressed by the idea of dying and ask why bother make a list? I’d get caught up in wondering what would be so important on that last day. I would think endlessly about my reaction to the news and also the reaction of those around me.

I’ve accepted that most of us will have no idea of when our time will come. So, the better thing for me, try to work in just a little bit of that “list” each day. I also try to work in a little bit more of what’s in front of me each day and each moment. I hope to find a balance between getting hooked on a “bucket list” made up some time ago, and living more fully in however moments I have.

So far, it’s going pretty well.

How about for you?
