sitting quietly
doing nothing
spring comes
and the grass grows by itself
– Basho, Zen Buddhist
Maybe there just isn’t a lot for us to DO. Maybe our DOING isn’t really doing what we think it is. Maybe focusing on trying to make the grass grow, or the world spin, or other things that really aren’t in our control, isn’t really that productive. Maybe there’s something better for us to do – or not-do, as the case may be.
It’s sometimes difficult to accept the fact that the sun will continue to rise and set (and spring’s grass will continue to grow) no matter what happens in our individual existences.
